Do you want to create good habits or break bad habits? Using the example of the “Covid-15” weight gain, I show how to apply concepts from the book Atomic Habits in the following video (6:23, which was a practice for a speech that I’m giving tonight for my Readership Toastmasters Club).
There are also a few speaker-tip takeaways, which are listed below the video!
Bonus: A Few Presentation Tips:
- PowerPoint slides can be used as virtual backgrounds in Zoom. While Zoom recently released an update that allows you to use your slide presentation as a background, I chose an older method to make my slides be my virtual background because if other attendees in the meeting haven’t installed the update, the slides will not appear as a virtual background. So, I’ll wait a while to use that new feature. Instead I uploaded the jpgs of my PowerPoint slides as virtual backgrounds (The widescreen16:9 ratio is perfect for virtual backgrounds). Watch the How-to video if you want to use this method.
- Practice on the platform for improved performance. This video was my 3rd take. I had a few more hiccups in the prior takes (slides out of order, realizing I needed an additional slide, and more)
- Record and watch your practice (easy to do on Zoom, just click record!). See how you come across–what went well and what you might do differently.
Thanks for sharing.
Have you seen any of Ali Abdaal’s videos? He’s a young doctor in the UK, and he does some great stuff about personal effectiveness (as well as good study habits etc).
Recently he too summarised Atomic Habits. Even if you’re not interested in that video, do check out his channel. Among other things, he’s an avid reader, and for instance one of his videos is called “Is reading fiction a waste of time?”
I think he’s got some very thought-provoking content.
